September 2020 – Peering from the cave..

Today, like so many other days recently, seems a little upside down. It’s fall, that happens every year, I’m told – but everything is different. The usual rush out into the world to watch the wheel turn has turned into peering from the entrance of the cave, poking at the yellow light in the sky with my spear and grunting a lot. Is it safe?

Nope. But really, it wasn’t before, and now we are all faced -still- with the idea of what an acceptable risk is, and who we want to be in the new normal.

Here it is: For the time being. I’m Batman.
Underground Lair? Check.
Up most nights? Check.
Bat signal? Check, Between many over-connected work and social platforms, got that covered.
Filthy rich alter ego? – Well, not so much.
Exciting projects? Check!

Since June I’ve been working with my Co-Author Mark Stallings on a to-be-announced project. We are closing in on the halfway point.

I’m also continuing to work on a solo fantasy project, The Ravenswept Chronicles, and I’ll be spending a lot more time there once the current project is completed.

Cheers from the Bat-Cave!

Matt

June 2020 – So… Blog thing.

In the Beginning…

I’ve always been an avid reader. That was a much easier thing to be when I was younger and before the pressures of career, side obligations, and simply keeping up with life were all vying for time.

I started writing by producing short stories and odd bits for my gaming group in between sessions. Our time was limited and “what comes next” was something my mind would churn on until I sat at the keyboard long enough to shut it up.

In the meantime, I’d become involved with the writing community. Many of my friends were either already professional writers, aspiring writers, or addicted hobbyists as I’d become, so when I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to submit a story in one of my favorite Military Sci-Fi series, it was time to take the chance.

Seeing the progress of SET THE TERMS was a great education for me and I’ll always be grateful to Kevin and Mia along with the rest of the Authors who work in the 4HU along with CKP (Chris Kennedy Publishing) for being the amazing supportive group of people they are.

It’s been a fantastic ride, and I’m humbled to be part of it. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Peacemakers. The Galactic Union’s most capable enforcers and resolute negotiators, their name alone elicits fear and awe among the Union’s citizenry. Being a Peacemaker isn’t easy. They’re charged with setting the terms and doing anything which needs to be done – even if it personally costs them everything. They must learn to honor the threat to all life, and, in the end, they must stand or fall, based on their own convictions. Welcome back to the Four Horsemen universe, where only a willingness to fight and die for money separates Humans from the majority of the other races. Edited by Mia R. Kleve and best-selling author Kevin Ikenberry, Set the Terms includes 14 all-new Peacemaker-themed stories in the Four Horsemen universe by a variety of best-selling authors – and some you may not have heard of…yet. From pigs flying to cats landing on their feet, Set the Terms shows Peacemakers at work from the origin of the guild to present day. Journey with a Lumar Peacemaker as he tries to complete his first mission and watch as a Phidae Peacemaker tries to complete his final one. They will have to use their wits as well as their weapons if they hope to remain standing at the end of the day.
