 Sommerkorn Blues

To the tune of “Summertime Blues” By Eddie Cochran

I’m gonna raise a fuss
I’m gonna raise a holler
About fightin’ all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby
Try to get a date
The Sarge says, “No, dice, son
She’ll just have to wait”

Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain’t no cure
For the Sommerkorn blues

Well, my Sergeant Major told me
Son you got to make some money
If you wanna use a CASPer
When you’re fighting next Sunday
Well, I didn’t get a share
Cause of course I was sick
“Now you can’t use the CASPer
‘Cause you didn’t fight a lick”

Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain’t no cure
For the Sommerkorn blues

I’m gonna take two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
Cause I’m stockcade bound
for In-subordination
Well, I called my base Commander
And he sent a note
“I’d like to help you out,
But it ain’t going to float.

Sometime I wonder
What am I gonnna do
But there ain’t no cure
For the Sommerkorn blues

Jessica

To the tune of  “Gloria” By Laura Branigan

Jessica, don’t you think you’re falling?
If Snowman needs to reach you, why hasn’t he been calling?
A Peacemaker doesn’t answer You can find him down the line
Oh-oh-oh, calling Jessica

Jessica (Jessica), The Veetanho have your number (Jessica)
I think they got the alias (Jessica) that you’ve been living under (Jessica)
But you have to keep on searching, was it something that he said?
Lucille’s voice speaks in your head
Calling Jessica

A-ha-ha, a-ha-ha, Jessica, how’s it gonna go down?
Will you meet them on the main line, or will you kill them on the rebound?
Will you do it for the credits, take a mission in the afternoon?
Feel your innocence slipping away, don’t believe it’s comin’ back soon
But you have to keep on searching, was it something that they said?
Lucille’s voice speaks in your head
Calling Jessica

Jessica, don’t you think you’re falling?
If Snowman needs to reach you, why hasn’t he been calling?
A Peacemaker doesn’t answer You can find him down the line
Oh-oh-oh, calling Jessica

Jessica (Jessica), I think the MinSha got your number (Jessica)
I think they got the alias (Jessica) that you’ve been living under (Jessica)
But you really don’t remember, was it something that they said?
Lucille’s voice speaks in your head
Calling Jessica

(Jessica, Jessica, Jessica, Jessica, Jessica) (Jessica, Jessica, Jessica, Jessica, Jessica)

Mission Briefings

To the tune of “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” by Nat King Cole

Although it’s been said many times, many ways, Mission Briefings to you…
MinSha Dying under heavy fire
Besquith nipping at your toes
Mission objectives being screamed by the Sarge
And cities nuked up until they glow

Everybody knows some CASPers and some tracer rounds
Help to make the mission bright
Senior Cadre with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know the contracts on its way
Providing lots of blood and mayhem for good pay
And every green recruit is gonna spy
To see if drop ships really know just how to fly

And so I’m offering this simple phrase
For Mercs age one to ninety two
Although it’s been said Many times, many ways

Mission Briefings to you
Mission Briefings to you

They know the contracts on its way
Providing lots of blood and mayhem for good pay
And every green recruit is gonna spy
To see if drop ships really know just how to fly

And so I’m offering this simple phrase
For Mercs age one to ninety two
Although it’s been said Many times, many ways

Mission Briefings
Mission Briefings
Mission Briefings to you…

The Pride of the Dusman

To the tune of “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, by Gordon Lightfoot

The legend lives on from the Great War on down
Of a Dreadnaught designed by the Dusman
The star-lanes, it’s said, never give up their dead
When the cold of the deep dark turns fiery
They aimed for the core with a thousand ships more
Than the Kahraman should have expected
That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the hell winds a-blowin’ came early

The ship was the pride of the rim dweller side
Coming back from a refit in space dock
As the big warships go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well-seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of Merc firms
When they left and they boosted for core worlds
And deep in the night when the battle bell rang
Could it be the hell wind they’d been feelin’?

The jammers came on with a tattle-tale sound
And torpedoes broke on the armor
And every man knew, as the Captain did too,
‘Twas the enemies cloaked ships revealin’
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the shells of the railguns came slashin’
When afternoon came it was vacuum and pain
With the enemy storming the drop bays

They crushed all the dreams of the Canavar Kings
When the Raknar deployed on the hull plates
In defense of the rim with bulkheads caving in,
They said Brothers, it’s been good t’know ya
The captain wired in he had space comin’ in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when she blazed outta sight
Came the wreck of the Pride of the Dusman

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the stars turn the minutes to hours?
The SAR crews all say they’d have fought through the day
If they’d put fifteen more parsecs behind her
They might have been holed or they might have lost power
They may have broke deep and gone nova
And all that remains is the faces and names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

Hyperspace rolls, the jump gates sing
In the rooms of our star vaulted mansion
Old War Horses steam with a younger Merc’s dreams
The dives and bars are for Veterans
And farther below where the Honored Dead go
Takes in all that the Solders can send them
And the armored ships go as the spacers all know
With the gales of Hell Winds remembered

In musty old halls on the free worlds they drank,
In the Merc pits and Spacers’ cathedrals
A Ships bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times
For each kill of the Pride of the Dusman
The legend lives on from the Great War on down
Of a Dreadnaught designed by the Dusman
The star-lanes, it’s said, never give up their dead
When cold of the deep dark turns fiery

You Don’t Kill me Besquith

To the tune of “You don’t Bring me Flowers” By Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand

You don’t kill me Besquith
You don’t murder MinSha
You never give me orders anymore
When my CASPer gets docked
at the end of the day

I remember when
You still wanted to debrief me
Used to love to lead me

On our drops in the dead of the night
When its good for you Top
And the mission’s going alright
Well you just jump away
And drop out of site

And you don’t kill me Besquith anymore

It used to be so natural (used to be)
To talk about our contracts
But used-to-bes don’t count anymore
They just lay on the floor ’til we sweep them away

Sergeant, I remember
All the things you taught me
I learned how to shoot
And I learned how to fly
Well learned how to live
And I learned how to die

So our contract is up
And I’ll tell you goodbye
Cause you don’t kill me Besquith
Anymore

Well, our contract is up
And I’ll tell you goodbye
You don’t say you need me
And you don’t murder MinSha
You don’t kill me Besquith
Anymore.

Supply Caravan

To the tune of “Winter Wonderland” By Dick Smith, Felix Bernard, 1934

Klaxons ring, are you listening,
Beyond the gate, stars are glistening
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight,
Escorting a supply caravan

Colonel Ike is a full bird,
Steady on is the new word
The cadence is true,
For me and for you.
Escorting a supply caravan

Stomping through the meadows in our CASPers,
Camouflaged in shades of green and brown
Sarge asks: Are we ready?
We’ll say: No man,
We can see more dropships are inbound.

Later on, we’ll conspire,
Eating chow, beside the fire
To face unafraid,
The enemies we’ve made,
Escorting a supply caravan

In the meadow we might find a MERC base,
Artillery will smash it to the ground
We’ll let it burn and we might even pillage,
Or was that the other way around?

Fire-fights, ain’t they thrilling?
Makes it worth, all that drilling.
It could take all day, the Enforcer way,
Escorting a supply caravan
Escorting a supply caravan
Escorting a supply caravan

Bjorn Free

To the tune of “Born Free” By Andy Williams

Bjorn free, your axe makes the wind blow
And blood makes the grass grow
Bjorn free to follow your heart
Live free, and death will surround you
your foes will astound you
Each time you reach for the stars

Slay free, where no walls divide you
You’re free as a roaring tide
There’s nowhere your foes can hide
Bjorn free, and life is worth living
But only worth living

Cause you’re Bjorn free

The Drop Song

To the tune of “Roll me over in the Clover” – Traditional

Take us Over! In the Rover!
Take us over Drop Us down and do it again!

Well this is Number one and the Drop has just begun.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is Number two and we’re waiting here for you.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number three, but there ain’t no stopping me.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number four and we’re going back for more.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number five, think we’ll all get out alive?
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number six, and we still have lots of tricks.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number seven and we send our foes to heaven.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number eight and we’re crashing down the gate.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number nine and it seems we’re doing fine.
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

Well this is number ten and we’re at it once again,
Lock and Load and CASPer up and do it again!

The Wild Mercenary

To the tune of “The Wild Rover” Traditional

I’ve wandered the star lanes for many a year
And I spent all my money on weapons and beer,
And now I’m returning with wealth in great store
And I never will play mercenary no more.

And it’s no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play Mercenary,
No never no more.

I went to a Merc Pit that I used to frequent
And I told the Veetanho my credits was spent.
I asked her for contracts, she answered me “nay
Such a custom as yours I could have any day.”

And it’s no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play Mercenary,
No never no more.

I took from my pocket red diamonds so bright
And the Pit Bosses eyes opened wide with delight.
She said “I have CASPers and Ships of the best
And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest.”

And it’s no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play Mercenary,
No never no more.

I’ll go home to my comp’ney, confess what I’ve done
And show them the things that my scheming has won.
And if they forgive me as ofttimes before
Sure we never will play mercenaries no more.

And it’s no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will We play Mercenary,
No never no more.

Outbound and Down

To the tune of “East bound and Down” by Jerry Reed.

Outbound and down, Intergalactic haulin’
Oh, we gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m Outbound, just watch ol’ Snowman run
Keep your foot hard on the thrusters, son there’s no slowin’ down
Let it all hang out, ’cause we got a run to make
The boys are fighting on the Rim and we have CASPers comin’ in
And we’ll get ‘em there no matter what it takes
Outbound and down, loaded up and haulin’
Oh, we gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m Tolo bound with Peepo on the run
Outbound and down, Intergalactic haulin’
Oh, we gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m Outbound, just watch ol’ Snowman run
The merc guild’s got them ears on, their hot on your trail
And they ain’t gonna rest ’til they see you fail
So you gotta dodge ‘em, you’ve gotta duck ‘em
You gotta keep that starship haulin’
Just put that hammer down and give it hell
Outbound and down, loaded up and haulin’
Oh, we gonna do what they say can’t be done
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I’m Tolo bound with Peepo on the run

Where the Aliens know your Name

To the tune of “The Theme from Cheers”

Making your way on the rim today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your contracts
Sure would help a lot
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where every guild hall knows your name
And they’re terrified you came
You want to be where you can see
The credits are all the same
You want to be where everybody knows
your name
You want to go where the aliens know
The credits are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows
your name

Those were the days

To the tune of “Those Were the Days” – Theme from All in the Family”

Boy the way Jim Cartwright played,
Fighting like we’re on parade,
Mercs like us we had it made,
Those were the days,
And you know where you were then,
Five by Five and Ten for Ten,
Mister we could use a man like Joel Lyons again,
Didn’t need no Guild Hall state,
Everybody pulled his weight,
Gee our old CASPers ran great,
Those were the days.

The 4HU Birthday Dirge

To the tune of : “Volga Boatmen”

Chorus:

Happy Birthday. (Thump) Happy Birthday. (Thump)

Death, Destruction and Despair,
People dying everywhere.

For a Merc the age you are.
Your demise can not be far.

May the cities in your wake.
Burn like candles on your cake.

When you know you will be damned.
As your CASPer’s MAC has jammed

When the ladies were too far.
You slept with a Cannavar.

Drop ships falling from the sky.
Will you fall or will you fry?

We, your friends will never tell.
Your command has gone to hell.

When you really need to win-it.
Nuke them from the 10 K Limit.

So far Death you have bypassed.
Don’t look now, it’s gaining fast.

I’m a Besquith can’t you see.
Get your Birthday kiss from me!

If the Oogar sack your town
Then your pants will all be Brown.

Indigestion’s what you get.
From the Echin that you ‘et!

Long ago your hair turned grey.
Now it’s falling out they say.

So you know (REDACTED) but,
No one found out YOU KNOW WHAT.

Finale:

If there are verses we have missed
You can add them to our list!

Happy Birthday. (Thump) Happy Birthday. (Thump)

Dangermoose

To the tune of “Danger Zone” By Kenny Loggins.

Revvin’ up your CASPer
Listen to the howlin’ roar
Metal under tension
Beggin’ you to rock and roar

Starlane to the DangerMoose
Right into the DangerMoose

Headin’ into twilight
Our MACs’ on fire tonight
They got you jumpin’ off the deck
The moment you arrive

Starlane to the DangerMoose
Gonna take you
Right into the DangerMoose

You’ll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You’ll never know what you can do
Till you push it up as hard as you can go

Front line of the battle
Always where he burns to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Starlane to the DangerMoose
Gonna take you

Right into the DangerMoose

Starlane to the DangerMoose
Right into the DangerMoose

Drop Around the clock

To the tune of “Rock Around the Clock” By Bill Haley and his Comets

One, Two, Three O’clock, Four O’clock drop
Five, Six, Seven O’clock, Eight O’clock drop
Nine, Ten, Eleven O’clock, Twelve O’clock drop
We’re gonna drop around the clock tonight

Put your CASPer on and join me hon’
We’ll have some fun when the clock strikes one

Chorus:
We’re gonna drop around the clock tonight
We’re gonna drop, drop, drop, ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna drop around the clock tonight

When the clock strikes two, three and four
If the ammo’s low we’ll yell for more

Chorus:
When the chimes ring five, six, and seven
We’ll send targets straight to heaven

Chorus:
When it’s eight, nine, ten, eleven too
I’ll be locked on and so will you

Chorus:
When the clock strikes twelve we’ll cool off then
Start dropin’ ’round the clock again
